Week:  12/02/2013

This week we will be completing our 2nd quarter writing prompt:  "Read a short story and focus on the protagonist's problem.  Write a cause-and-effect report about why the character has this problem and how the problem affects others."  There are five steps of the writing process that your child should know. They are:  Pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. This week we will be working on revising and editing our essays. (The rubric was sent home the third week of November).

 

Also, this week we will begin a novel, Ruby Bridges.  We will read the novel the first 15 minutes of class daily.  We will focus on pre-reading skills and context clues.  At the end of the novel, students will take an exam in Accelerator Reader.  Therefore, it is imperative that your child arrives to school on time so that he or she does not miss out on the reading.

We're making words with prefixes, suffixes, and word roots.  We're using academic and domain specific vocabulary.
